Motivational Quotes

Postby Lawrence.McDonell » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:32 am

I have started posting a motivational/inspirational quote with my WOD each day in the training logs. I have collected hundreds from various threads including the CF mainsite message board but am always looking for more so thought i would see what people have got. I suppose i should start it off with a favourite from Rocky Balboa (Rocky 6).

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!"

They don't have to be movie quotes or even crossfit related quotes but most people have heard something that has inspired them in some way so share with the rest :D

There is simply no other exercise, and certainly no machine, that produces the level of central nervous system activity, improved balance and coordination, skeletal loading and bone density enhancement, muscular stimulation and growth, connective tissue stress and strength, psychological demand and toughness, and overall systemic conditioning than the correctly performed full squat. - Mark Rippetoe

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

So later on you will have what others won't.

"We have reached an age where most men look like a twinkie with a butt crack and are about as useful in any kind of violent situation."

Not really a quote but some good sentiments:

The Winner's Circle by Denis Waitley

If the five Olympic rings were attitudes of champions in every profession, these five attitudes would be prominent in the mindset of the peak performer:

1. Paying the Price -- Everyone wants to win, but few are willing to invest the time and effort. Paying the price means focusing on developing the skills and training regimen of champions – observation, imitation, repetition and the internalization of knowledge into habits; also, learning why and how to go the extra mile and seeing success as a marathon, not a dash. Champions view failures as temporary inconveniences and learning experiences.

2. The Olympian Within -- Winners believe in their worth in advance of their performance. Most people base their worth on their current status or achievement level, which means that until they are judged successful by society’s standards, they have little to be proud of. Champions believe in their dreams when they have only a dream to hang on to, even in the face of criticism and superior achievements by others.

3. Non-situational Integrity -- Authentic, lasting winners have an uncompromising attitude about self-honesty. They function according to an “integrity triangle”, consisting of three basic questions: (a) Are my beliefs based upon truth? (b) Do my words and actions correspond with truth and honesty? (c) Before I speak or act, do I honestly consider the impact of my decision on other people and the environment?

4. The “Coachability” Factor -- Champions are always open to alternatives to improve their performance. Consistent winners are not the arrogant egotists who dominate the media spotlight. The most successful individuals in the game of life are often the most approachable, most gracious, non-judgmental with others and most critical of their own performances, as well as most eager to learn and improve.

5. Being a Team Player -- a team in harmony is synergy in motion, where the whole is greater than the sum of the individual talents. When all assignments are understood, when each takes 100 percent responsibility for the outcome, a quantum leap in performance takes place. Winners learn how to become interdependent, without sacrificing individuality; how to stand out, while fitting in.

I got one, reading through Robs training log as I was interested in his strength gains, considering thats likely what will going to get him over the line on his massive run next month...

From Toms question about being beserk and working out in a gas mask....

topic2-180.html#p2891

Due to my lack of runnng of late I find the gas mask Also makes the workout very uncomfortable and it is a mental challenge to complete the workout smilar to the mental discomfort I may experience n a 246km rn up a steep hill.

I should be studying but here I am...

Love that quote from Rob.

Saw this just now on OPT's website - not so much motivational but is to do with motivation:

"Set your goals based not on what you know you can do.
Set your goals based on what you're most passionate about.

There are capabilities you have that you don't yet know you have.
Meaningful challenges will awaken those capabilities and get them working for you."
“If you always put a limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.” - Bruce Lee

"There are many times I wish I was playing 18 holes of golf instead of training on my bike in cold, miserable weather. But in the final analysis, I'd rather win the Tour de France than play 18 holes of golf, that's why I do it." - Greg Lemond

Why?
If you're not making much progress, it's time to give yourself a boost.
Remind yourself why. Remind yourself why you chose the path you are on.
Remind yourself why you selected the priorities that you now follow. Perhaps it is time to focus on a new destination. Or perhaps you could simply use a good, clear reminder of what's truly important to you. Ultimately, it’s the same thing.

It can be all too easy to get caught up and dragged down by the day-to-day business of life.
Take time to regularly give yourself the benefit of the big picture.

From OPT's site
