Can you point out some specific examples of these malnourished men? Reason I ask is that no paleo proponent would ever let someone following that approach to nutrition (or any approach to nutrition) become malnourished. Its counter-intuitive at best. Eat this to be healthy but become malnourished instead....
Im sure there are those sort of people in every diet. Its all about testing and adjusting (or weighing and measuring with the zone).
Robb Wolf states that this diet in its organic form will work great for about 80-90% of people, with the remainder needing some further refinement.
Adrian alludes to this with the multiple sclerosis and night shade plants comment.
When it comes to the zone, I can understand the theory behind it, but from an evolutionary viewpoint, I doubt we had equal access to macro nutrients very often, where as the paleo approach pretty much is about mixing it up, eating whats available etc.
What I dont like about the zone is that food quality is not promoted. You can eat grain, there are even McDonalds zone meals. That to me is enough to discard it as an approach.
In saying that, I try and have all 3 macro nutrients with every meal and snack, just paleo foods. I dont weigh and measure. Pain in the butt.
I love nuts, meat, veges, fruit, salads etc. Its easy to follow for me at least. Its also the crossfit diet prescription.
http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/start-diet.htmlThen again do what works for you. I do recall you rocking up to the "Intruder challenge" we had, after a night on the turps, with coffee in hand. Late. Starting the workout, spewing the coffee up, finishing the workout, and beating everyone apart from Rob.
