Going Paleo? What not to eat.....

1. Grain or any derivative. This means ALL bread including the supposedly healthy "wholegrain", all pasta, wheat, oats, flour (including rice flour and vegetable flour or anything with the word flour), breakfast "cereal", bran etc. It also means NO rice, quinoa, couscous etc. These foods are not fit for human consumption. I realise this is a shock to most, as they are the staple in most diets. Welcome to the gravity of the problem we are facing.....Cardiovascular disease only affects 3.5million Australians.....
Dont forget Corn is a grain.

2. Gluten. Gluten free is not grain free, its supplemented for something that has less gluten in it, or gluten like substances in it. Take a look at the ingredients of gluten free sausages, you will see bran flour, or vege flour, or rice flour in it instead, all bad.

3. Starchy vegetables. Starch = undesirable insulin response.... Definately no potatoes. Sweet potatoes are good for you post workout, and are very very nutritionally dense, but a big plate of mashed sweet potato with dinner is not on. Carrots are ok. High GI fruits are best avoided, especially if looking to lose weight, see my post here for more info on fruit.

4. Sugar. And this shit is present in everything - and is why we "eat clean". Typically any sauce such as bbq or tomato sauce will have a tonne of it. 99% fat free salad dressing is about 20-30% sugar. Learn to read nutrition labels. No sugar with coffee/tea. None. If you eliminate nothing else, eliminate sugar. This includes sweeteners. Obviously no softdrinks etc.

5. Dairy. Unless someone can show me video of themselves milking a wild cow. Dairy was not in our diet until around 10000 yrs ago. Milk proteins and lactose are awesome at raising insulin levels in the blood. Lactose free milk is not acceptable it contains other crap sugar added. What is, is homemade almond milk, home made only. Coconut milk is ok if its the "Avaya brand" as most others contain a heap of crap in them. No cheese of any description.

6. Soy of any kind, Soy bean, milk, soy sauce. Soy is so bad on so many levels.

7. Legumes. Including all beans, all peas and snowpeas, and peanuts. Also includes chick peas and lentils. Both Legumes and Grains contain Lectins and here is some reading on Lectins...

8. Salt. Dont add salt to anything.

9. Trans fat. All fast food is out, junk food out. No cheating with this crap.

10. Alcohol. I write this after having 4 alcoholic beverages last night at a mates bucks party, the first drinks in months, and I feel absolutely disgusting for it. Better choices have been mentioned numerous times. NorCal Margaritas are ok if you must drink - Tequila, sodawater and lime. Vodka is an ok substitute, dry red wine - less sugar, higher in antioxidants, but really anything else is damaging. Beer - see grains above, scotch same, chick drinks, see the sugar point. Just avoid it, its not the end of the world.

11. The same damn thing every day. Mix up the meat and veg, it looks like I eat similar stuff, but I think I mix it up pretty good in terms of meat and veg variety. Eating the same meal every day will end up working very much against you. Going with whats in season is the best way to do this.
