The 2012 Reebok CrossFit Open Commences Today

Posted on Thursday, 23 February 2012 in General RAW

Good Luck to all the athletes around the world competing in the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Open. The Open is a great opportunity to test yourself against the Rich Fronings and Kristen Clevers of the World, and to set some new goals and benchmarks. If the Regionals are your goal the key is to give 100% consistently across all workouts, you do not need to win or even place top ten in anything to qualify. Having consistent performances which land you in the top 60 in each Open WOD will be enough to qualify!

Strengths and Weaknesses in CrossFit

Posted on Monday, 20 February 2012 in General RAW

CrossFit has so many skill sets it is virtually impossible to "Master" them all. You can certainly be good or great at most of the sets but to master them all is a huge task and will take many years. It SHOULD be every CrossFitters goal to be as well rounded as possible as an athletes. CrossFit measures work capacity across broad time and modal domains which is a great phrase that CrossFit has captured. The key words when we are looking at strengths and weaknesses is the MODAL DOMAINS section.

Olympic Lifting on the Gold Coast: The Clean

Posted on Sunday, 19 February 2012 in General RAW

RAW STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING TRAINING AND ONLINE PROGRAMMING FOR ATHLETES ON THE GOLD COAST.

The Clean and or power clean is probably the most important lift in increase an athletes power production. In the clean the bar is brought from the ground to the shoulder in one movement (gross movement) however there are several critical points to the clean that we should all focus on. The second part of the WOD is dynamic power combined with agility which is moving/changing direction at speed.

Posted on Thursday, 16 February 2012 in General RAW

If any of you follow Kelly Starrett's Mobility WOD, you would be aware that he's just his finished 365 days of mobility project. So  apart from everyone being extremley mobile and supple what did he learn?? Starrett offers the following on his site:

Over the course of the last few months I have learned a few lessons to say the least:

1) Athletes need to be treated like athletes.  Tubes of foam are for children.  Mobilization tools for athletes need to be legit.

Posted on Wednesday, 15 February 2012 in General RAW

RAW STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING OFFERS TRAINING AND ONLINE PROGRAMMING FOR STRENGTH AND POWER ATHLETES ON THE GOLD COAST

The following is an excerpt from a great article from T Nation 'Managing Inflammation':

Inflammation is big business. With an aging population seeking to live a long and pain-free life, pharmaceutical companies are hard at work developing drugs to combat the many faces of inflammation. But this stuff isn't just for old folks – young bucks looking to get bigger and stronger can benefit as well.

Inflammation is the body's first response to an injury or infection. It was originally defined by the Latin words calor, dolor, rubor, and tumor, which mean heat, pain, redness, and swelling, respectively. What's interesting is the pain, redness, and swelling aren't directly caused by the infection or injury, but the immune system's response to them.
