Rack pulls are a strength-building exercise that targets the posterior chain muscles responsible for back and hip extension.

Deadlift Tips for CrossFitters

Way back, prior to the avalanche of specialized machines and weight rooms loaded with bars, weights, and dumbbells, anyone who was interested in improving his strength, and this included aspiring bodybuilders, did deadlifts. They could be done with just a bar, which was often a standard one rather than the Olympic model, in a limited amount of space and there was no need of any spotters.
