Most of you will probably now know that sugar is addictive and toxic, however finally the mainstream media is beginning to catch on to these facts. A week ago on 60 Minutes in America, a story was presented about how dangerous sugar is, and how by eliminating it from your diet you are saving your body. Sugar IS one of America's biggest killers! There's still a few questionable points in the 60 minutes report, however it's great to see that at least the basic message is getting out!

An oldie but a goodie.

Are you still getting over the myth that saturated fat is bad for you??

 

1) Improved cardiovascular risk factors. Saturated fat plays a key role in cardiovascular health. The addition of saturated fat to the diet reduces the levels of a substance called lipoprotein (a) that correlates strongly with risk for heart disease. Research has shown that when women diet, those eating the greatest percentage of the total fat in their diets as saturated fat, lose the most weight.

Saturated fat has long been demonised by our health authorities and the media. What is the basis for this position on Saturated fat? Are current recommendations for VERY low saturated fat intake justified? How much saturated fat (and what types), if any should one eat? Without a historical and scientific perspective this questions can be nearly impossible to answer.

The Heart Foundation, Credible?

The Heart Foundation is according to its website, "a public health program which aims to improve the nutrition of the foods Australians eat most often and deliver better nutritional health outcomes for all Australians.  The Tick nutrition standards focus on improvements that impact positively on your health such as limiting saturated fat, salt and kilojoules and making sure there is more of the healthier nutrients like calcium and fibre." What's wrong with this statement and secondly what's wrong with this organisation??

The Benefits of Saturated Fats

With the possible exception of cholesterol, there has never been a more misunderstood facet of nutrition than saturated fat. You've heard it all a million times: "Don't eat any saturated fat, it will clog up your arteries," or, "It will give you heart disease," and of course, "You'll become grossly obese and be shipped off to audition for the Biggest Loser." Well, I'm here to tell you that you've been misled, misinformed, and downright manipulated by the media, medical organizations, and "health authorities" alike.
